Stuffed Banana Peppers with Meat and Cheese

Stuffed Banana Peppers with meat and cheese are a delightful dish that brings together a medley of flavors, perfect for a weeknight meal or a special gathering. Originating from Italian-American cuisine, these peppers are stuffed with a savory mixture of ground meat and cheese, then baked to perfection. They represent a wonderful blend of comfort and sophistication, ideal for those looking to explore new culinary adventures in their kitchen.

These stuffed banana peppers pair wonderfully with a fresh green salad, garlic bread, or a side of roasted vegetables. For a heartier meal, you might consider serving them alongside a creamy risotto or a pile of spaghetti tossed in olive oil and garlic. A light, crisp white wine or a robust red can complement the rich flavors of the peppers, making for a well-rounded and satisfying dining experience.

Ingredients

8-10 banana peppers, tops cut off and seeds removed
1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 cup marinara sauce
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp olive oil

Preparation

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Heat olive oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, sautéing until they become fragrant and translucent.

Add the ground beef or sausage to the skillet, cooking until fully browned. Season with oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.

Remove the skillet from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. Stir in mozzarella and parmesan cheese until well combined.

Stuff each banana pepper with the meat and cheese mixture, ensuring they are fully filled but not overstuffed.

Place the stuffed peppers in a baking dish and pour marinara sauce over the top.

Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until peppers are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Let the peppers cool slightly before serving.

Enjoy!
